…star kitty’s lovely, but tennessee slim is the bomb…
Today’s fuck song is brought to you by the queen of the Dungeon Family and OG “neo-soul” [gag] singer Joi. I know I might piss alot folks off, but I would say Erykah got alot of her style from Joi. If not that, then the two were DEFINITELY on the same futuristic-retro-spaceship-soul wavelength. Peep this though: Joi’s first album Pendulum Vibe came out in 1994. And Her second album, Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome, which was co-produced with Dallas Austin AND backed by legendary band Fishbone, was supposed to be released in 1996 but was never officially released due to label troubles. Erykah’s Baduizm was released in 1997. Peep the styles, do the math.
I’m lazy, and self-conscious of my bad writing skills, but you HAVE to read her story on wikipedia.
“I Love You Forever, Right Now” is off her most recent album, Tennessee Slim is the Bomb, which she put out independently and is available here.
Joi feat. Phil Upchurch & Kebbi Williams “I Love You Forever, Right Now”
