“I’m not racist, I voted for Obama” is the new “I’m not racist, I have black friends.” (I like the equally faulty statement that I made up: “I’m not racist, I’m an Ethnic Studies Major) Consequently, I’M not racist because I have two Black friends who I consider my brothers: DO D.A.T., who I have already blogged extensively about, and KHINGZ, which is this looker right here:

KHINGZ is the Oakland-by-way-of-Brooklyn-by-way-of-Seattle-but-has-roots-in-Haiti homie who is afflicted with the part-nerd/part-thug/part-community-organizer syndrome combined with a Southend (Seattle) skateboarder aesthetic. All of which makes for great music. His newest album, FROM SLAVESHIPS TO SPACESHIPS is out now and you need to support my brother’s fly gear addiction as soon as possible by ordering the CD HERE. Check out these two songs from the album:

Aaaaand here’s a video of Khingz making creative use of a bathroom (shout out to Jillthy! If you’re reading this, click HERE):

Directed by Todd Angkasuwan. He’s Thai American!
I wasn’t feeling the song when I first heard it, but this video blew my mind. Not anything new, concept wise, but great execution. Clean & simple never fails. Check out the rest of Todd’s videos here.

One of the worst decisions I ever made as a young’un was decide to take French instead of Spanish. Now my dumbass is in LA not understanding shit. I’m proud that I can at least order a cabeza taco con extra chile verde late night at the truck after a dj gig.
Even after five years of Francaise, however, I still can’t understand anything Marie is saying in this song. Her and Vincent could be talking about explosive diarrhea, for all I know. Doesn’t matter though, ’cause only the French could make a conversation about loose bowels sound this sexy.

Got this cd as a gift from my roommate in college and it’s remained in my Generation 3 iPod (pre-clickwheel) ever since. Dude’s got the gift…but me thinks he’s a tad bit crazy. When I saw him in concert for the first time, he had a dribble of spittle on his beard the whole time he performed, which bother the shit outta my OCD ass.

On the anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre, China is barring journalists and blocking websites to crack down on any anniversary protests/remembrances/repeats. Because of censorship, Chinese residents born after the protests know nothing of what happened in the summer of 1989 unless they find out through underground videos or books. However, most of us here, who have access to all sorts of news and historical archives, still don’t know that much about what happened either.
Educate yourself:
1989 TIANANMEN SQUARE PROTESTS WIKIPEDIA
Newscast from June 4, 1989:
The Tankman:
I remember being 8 years old staying up late with my parents watching the breaking news unfold around Tiananmen. I remember seeing the guy block those tanks live as it was happening. I keep thinking about what was going through his head when he decided to stand in front of those tanks. It’s one of those moments of self-sacrifice/courage/passion that I always think about to keep me grounded.
