I recently went to New York to perform with Bambu. It was muito fun. Seems like all my friends from the Bay have either moved to LA or New York, or both. That Sunday, I had a break from all the Pilipinos and spent it with my NY Chinese brethren: my brother Chris, the photographer; Sheng Wang, comedian and friend since 8th grad; and Adriel Luis, Pretty Buoyant partner in crime.
Destination 1: Flushing, Queens

Fast food duck.

Sheng checking on who slangs the best Boba.

Adriel finally gets his bamboo mat.
Destination 2: Adriel’s Backyard, Brooklyn

Formerly a crackhouse, Adriel’s renovated building comes complete with a backyard, which has random pieces of glass buried in it. Adriel is in the process of tilling the soil to grow grass.

Triple exposure. Perfect representation of our mindstate at that moment.
Destination 3: Prospect Park, Brooklyn

On the way to subway to Destination 4, we took a wide detour and decided to hang out in the park.
Destination 4: Subway to Manhattan to Japanese Bar to Watch Lakers-Celtics Game 3

Trying to guard ourselves from the sea wind with a useless red shag cloth that Sheng had bought years ago with the intent to upholster his long-gone Corolla with.

Back in the day, I was a SHENG WANG wannabe. In eighth grade, he had long bleached bangs, so I got long bleached bangs. He was into The Cure. I got into The Cure. He went to UC Berkeley, I went to UC Berkeley. He joined Theatre Rice, I joined Theatre Rice. He made an Asian American documentary, I made an Asian American documentary. That’s where it ends. He became a standup comic, I became a DJ.
Now, as my dj career amounts to little more than this, Sheng is poised to be one of America’s funniest and most original comics, much less one of THE funniest Asian Americans.
Peep:
Sheng moved to LA, I moved to LA. But…he’s never here cuz he tours so much. Find out if he’s performing in your area at his MYSPACE.

I would like to take some credit for this, since I intro’d Bam to this gem of a movie…and give some credit to the homie Shengis Khan for introducing it to me.
***FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY***
Something light-hearted for y’all in the midst of all this bullshit:
Thanks Sheng Wang!
