EVENT: 3.10.09 | Activism Right There 2009 | UC Berkeley

Activism Right There (ART) is an annual festival celebrating the history of student activism at UC Berkeley by spotlighting social, political, and cultural movements in the Bay Area and beyond through discussion, song, poetry, and dance.

This year’s Activism Right There (ART) will be held Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 in Zellerbach Auditorium.

The event will consist of a panel discussion featuring participants in student movements at Cal from the third world strike of 1969 through today. Including Bob Wing, Favianna Rodriguez, and Jesus Barraza.

Followed by performances from:

ZION-I (Oakland)
INVINCIBLE (Detroit)
BAMBU (LA)
BRWN BFLO (Oakland)
LOS RAKAS (Oakland/Panama)
40LOVE (San Francisco):

+ spoken word and dance

Host: JENNIFER JOHNS (Oakland)
DJ: K-SALAAM (Minneapolis)

$5 youth under 21 and students | $10 non-student adults

oh man! i wish i had looked at this blog earlier. so creative and inspiring. i’ve been trying to combine arts and activism for a long time now – sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t. this is one i’m expanding. thoughts welcomed. 😎
