VIDEO: Bambu’s Next Backup Dancers

Last week, Bambu and I performed in Carson for the annual CONNEXIONS Youth Concert, which the homie, QUEEN HERSTORY, helped organize as a member of the Carson Student Movement.

Although we were headlining, these young women from Carson’s Stephen White Middle School blew us out the water:

Check out their facial expression as they walk in! GANGSTA!

These sisters were better than ANY hip hop dance crew or steppers I’ve seen! Apparently, Socal’s South Bay (Carson, Torrance, etc) has a legacy of having some of the world’s best Drill and Flags teams. It’s somewhat of a subculture down there, which directly involve alot of young Pinays.

Watch out for the homie, Alison De La Cruz, a native Carsonian herself, who’s working on a play and documentary which explores the South Bay Drill/Flags subculture and its connections to Asian American/Pilipino American identity and Pop Culture.
