This month, we pay homage to the original architects of the Southern Hip Hop sound: Organized Noize Productions. Comprised of musicians/artists Sleepy Brown, Rico Wade, and Ray Murray, ONP is responsible for the majority of the music behind the Goodie Mob and early Outkast albums as well as some significant Top 40 hits of the era. Even in today’s world of cheap digital urban pop production, ONP’s signature syrup-y funky-soul sound not only remains relevant, but also still breaks ground with their current work (i.e. Big Boi’s “Fo Your Sorrows”).
